Effective Ways to Enhance the Grinding Efficiency of Ball Mill

Mineral processing plants encounter a wide range of problems when operating the ball mill. Low grinding efficiency, high energy consumption, low processing capacity and unstable product fineness are the most common issues of the ball mill manufacturers. To get the most of a ball mill, it is highly crucial to effectively improve the grinding efficiency of the mill. Here’s how:



Change the original gradeability

Ore hardness, toughness and dissociation determine the complexity of the gradeability. The property of the raw ore directly affects the output of the ball mill. New process technology can be adopted to change the gradeability if the economic and site conditions allow:

·         Add a chemical reagent to change the grinding effect

·         Heat the minerals or change the mechanical properties of the ore

Adopt more crushing and less grinding phenomena

When the feed size is large, the ball mill needs to do more work on the mill. This will ultimately increase the power and energy consumption. To reduce the feed size of the core, go for more crushing and less grinding process.

Accurate size and proportion of the steel ball

The accuracy in the size and proportion of the steel ball plays a vital role in enhancing the grinding efficiency of the mill. Keeping the ball size more, leads to small crushing force on the ore and improved efficiency as compared to the larger ball size.

Refill steel balls precisely

Continuous grinding action between the steel balls and ore leads to wear and tear of the balls. This greatly affects the grinding process. Hence adopt reasonable steel ball supplementation system for stable operation of the ball mill.

Optimize the Grinding Process

There are various methods that help optimize the grinding process such as optimizing the ore properties. Transform grain size, adopt pre-discarding tailings, stage grinding etc. to optimize the grinding process.

There are a plethora of factors affecting the grinding efficiency of the ball mill. Hence the operators must do a comprehensive analysis for production, parameters and outcomes.
